The Canopy of Leoben
Northern Main Square:Open Center with Framed Trees
The compact groves of trees frame the "Open Center," creating shady and atmospheric areas that can be used in various ways. Important sightlines remain intact, and the view of the ground floor zones remains unobstructed despite the tree plantings.
Under the canopy of the groves, benches and seating groups invite people to linger without the need to make purchases and to observe the lively activity in the main square. Additionally, there are lounging platforms, particularly popular among teenagers, while the cooling water feature holds a special appeal for children. Café gardens also find space under the atmospheric green canopy, significantly enhancing the quality of the area. In the pleasant shade of the trees, temporary events such as flea markets or pop-up gigs can also take place.
High Economic Efficiency Through Targeted Modifications
The existing paved surface will be selectively removed in several areas to make way for tree plantings, replaced by a permeable and open-pore surface. This way, the characteristic and identity-defining paving will mostly remain, complemented by shady and green groves of trees, ensuring a future-proof design of the main square.
Southern Main Square: The Green Entrance
The surface at the southern end of the main square will be replaced with a new and uniform surface (paving or "EP-Grip"). Additionally, the seating areas will be unsealed. The "Salon under Trees" invites people to linger with seating groups offering a view of a new bubbling water feature, providing refreshment on hot summer days.
A new row of trees along the northern facade will mark the end of the main square. Between the trees, there are unsealed seating areas and taxi stands.
