Concept
The concept for the redesign of the former railway station area in Hinterberg draws on the site's history and incorporates existing structures into the planning. The focus is primarily on the linearity of the space and the former railway tracks, which form the framework for the new recreational area. These structures organize and zone the open space, creating various areas for different uses that accommodate a wide range of visitors. This results in dedicated seating areas, open-use zones, and play and sports facilities.
The planting scheme is adapted to these spatial conditions, with linear rows of trees extending across the entire area. These trees not only provide shade but also create diverse uses and qualities of stay. Additionally, the concept addresses the theme of succession and change, which is strongly reflected through the vegetation. These succession areas enhance the greenery in the rear part of the site and enclose the space towards the street and the AT&S factory.
The former station building, which is set to be repurposed as a snack bar/café, is also integrated into the design and serves as a central feature of the area. The new forecourt will be a large, non-commercial seating area equipped with various furniture elements, inviting visitors to linger and enjoy the space.
